Born and raised in Germany, Albin Paulus obtained a classical education in clarinet. He obtained a master's degree in music sciences in Vienna and Cremona and wrote his thesis on the subject bag pipes and hurdy gurdies in Austria. Since 1994 he has specialized in bagpipes in continental Europe. He is also recognized as 18th century jaws harp virtuoso, and made first complete recording of the jaws harp concertos by Albrechtsberger in 2003. Paulus has appeared in International concert perfomances with Hotel Palindrone, Imbraxton, and other recognized groups. He has also been involved in collaborations with Piccolo Concerto, Concilium Musicum Wien, the L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble de musique baroque de Limoges. Paulus was a second place winner in competition in St. Chartier (F). Currently he is a teacher of bag pipes, jaws harp, and ensemble in Austria as well as abroad. Mr. Paulus also holds lectureships in Music Sciences and Celtic Culture, and is a guide at the Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments, Vienna.
